Union City, Tennessee native Russell Dickerson came out with a bang in 2017 with 4 # 1 songs in a row to begin his career…”Yours”, “Blue Tacoma”, “Every Little Thing” and “Love You Like I Used To”. His current single is “Home Sweet” from his 2nd album “Southern Symphony”. I bring up this 2nd album because 3 years ago I was in Nashville for the Country Radio Seminar. Our radio convention. While we are there we go to meetings and workshops and of course luncheons and dinners and concerts. It is such a fun and productive time. I got invited to a party at Russell’s home on the outskirts of Nashville to listen to his new single at the time “Love You Like I Used To” and songs off his upcoming new album. It can be an adventure sometimes getting out to a country star’s home. The address is usually kept secret so fans and stalkers can’t come walking up to his home at all hours. Their homes are their sanctuaries away from everything. His record company representative Parker texted me his address while I was at another party for Kelsea Ballerini and I got an Uber and went on a 20 minute ride out into the Nashville outskirts. It was very hilly country and when we got to the address I noticed the driveway was like going up a mountain incline. The driver wasn’t going to drive up there, So she dropped me off in the dark and I hiked up to the top. I was literally out of breath when I got to the front door and rang the doorbell. Russell’s wife let me in and she showed me where the snacks and drinks were. Russell found me just outside his kitchen and that’s where this picture was taken. He remembered me from the couple of other times we have met. After drinking and eating a little, Russell gathered us all in his living room and had a portable sound system and I heard “Love You Like I Used To” for the first time and we all agreed it would be a hit. (It went to # 1). After we heard “Home Sweet” in his home and a few more songs. We mixed and mingled some more and eventually I caught another Uber with a friend and went to a concert in Downtown Nashville at Luke Bryan’s 32 Bridge Bar where Jon Langston was playing. Luke Bryan made a surprise appearance. Just another night in Nashville. lol.
