Montgomery Gentry is one of the most successful county music duos of all time next to Brooks & Dunn. Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry are both natives of Kentucky. They formed in 1999 and we played their song “Hillbilly Shoes” right out of the box. They brought back the rowdy outlaw sound to country music when country music needed it. They’ve had many # 1’s including “If You Ever Stop Loving Me”, “Lucky Man”, “Something To Be Proud Of”, Back When I Knew It All” and “Roll With Me”. I first got to meet them at a Suwanee River Jam in Live Oak. When I was backstage Eddie ran right up to me and made sure to say hello and hang out for a bit. It made quite an impression on me. They also have supported K-COUNTRY by doing a FREE concert mid week for a lunchtime concert at Citizen’s Circle in Downtown, Ocala. People to this day still can’t believe that they did that and some people didn’t come because they didn’t believe it was true. lol. This picture was taken at our 20th Anniversary Concert that they headlined for us at Silver Springs. In 2000 in a major upset they beat Brooks & Dunn for the CMA Vocal Duo of the year award which caused shock waves in Nashville at the time. Sadly on September 8th, 2017 Troy Gentry died in a helicopter crash in Medford, New Jersey where they were supposed to perform that evening. Eddie still performs solo and was at the Leesburg Bikefest and October 15th he will be opening for Trace Adkins at the Saint Augustine Amphitheatre.
