Rubbin Elbows-Glen Campbell

Why is Glen Campbell with me in his bathrobe and eating an ice cream cone? Well first I want to start out by saying as a kid I remember watching his “The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour” on CBS from 1969 to 1972. Back in the days of variety shows on TV.  I remember singing his hit song “Rhinestone Cowboy” all the time.  That single sold over 2 million copies! In 1994 Glen opened his “Glen Campbell Good Times Theatre” in Branson. Missouri and that was the year I went there and saw Mel Tillis at his theatre and then the next day I decided to visit Glen ‘s place. All I had was my media badge which you can see in the picture. When I got to the theatre An Elvis Presley impersonator was parking cars and I told him I was with a radio station in Florida and he said come with me I will take you backstage to say Hi to Glen. I was like…Really? No way! But sure enough after they checked my ticket, I was taken backstage to Mr. Campbell’s dressing room and he popped right out in bathrobe and eating an ice cream cone. I couldn’t believe it! He said he knew my Program Director at the time Bill Kramer from his days in Arizona and told me to say hello to him from his “Mansion In Branson”. A few years later he would be doing a show at Silver Springs and soon after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010 and sadly he passed away in August 8th, 2017 at the age of 81. But I will always remember how kind he was backstage to me at his theatre and we had a wonderful conversation.
