Rubbin Elbow’s-Darryl Worley

93.7 K COUNTRY

“Have You Forgotten?” What a powerful song about September 11th, 2001 that Memphis, Tennessee born Darryl Worley wrote! We have played his music on K-COUNTRY since his career began in 1999.  He has done our outdoor jamboree and our Acoustic concerts and has always been so kind to radio. On September 2nd, 2012 my best friend and former K-Country Night Guy Jeff Davis worked for Darryl’s record label and had a show at Hard Rock Live! in Orlando along with the very new Michael Ray, Sara Evans, Chris Cagle, Uncle Kracker, Thompson Square, Lonestar, The Farm and Jana Kramer! What a line up! Well the show was hosted by another radio station, So I couldn’t go as Lewis Stokes from K-Country. So Jeff made me an honorary member of his entourage with Darryl and his band! So I got to hang backstage in Darryl’s dressing room before the show and just hang out and mingle with all the other stars there.  Even ESPN’s Lee Corso was there! A big Darryl Worley fan! Each artists came out and performed a couple of their hits and then at the end they were all to come out in a big circle and sing a song together as one big group. Well in Darryl’s dressing room Chris Cagle came in and said he wanted everyone to sing Elton John’s “Rocket Man”. Darryl was livid and said this is a COUNTRY Concert and we ain’t singing no Elton John song! Chris suggested Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead Or Alive” and Darryl got mad again and I was standing right in between the two and it came THISSSSSSS close to throwing punches. Darryl refused to come back out for the encore. But was finally coaxed into doing it and it went off without a hitch. After the show we all went drinking at the Hotel bar and Jeff and I even had to put one of Darryl’s band members to bed after that. It was for sure I night I have not forgotten.  🙂
