ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – According to a report from the Alachua County Communications Office, crews from multiple jurisdictions, including Alachua County Fire Rescue, Florida Forest Service and others received reports of a fire along CR 2082 near Hawthorne on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Services responded at approximately 3:45 p.m. to discover numerous “spot fires” along the roadway and extending into the distance.
The fires were quickly contained, and no injuries reported.
Witnesses attributed the cause of the fires to a vehicle with a flat tire traveling along the roadway, sending sparks past the edge of the road and igniting multiple areas along a stretch of approximately one mile.
