OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Civic Theatre (The Civic) is closing out its 74th season with The SpongeBob Musical, running May 1-18. Based on the beloved animated series, the musical brings the colorful world of Bikini Bottom to life with humor, heart, and a wide range of music for audiences of all ages.
While some may assume The SpongeBob Musical is aimed at children, Melody Murphy, Director of Marketing & Public Relations for The Civic, says the show’s appeal goes far beyond that. “People might think The SpongeBob Musical is a kids’ show, but that isn’t true – while it is very family-friendly, and you could (and should!) bring the whole family to see it, the show is for all ages,” Murphy said. “The humor and fantastic music transcend generational limits.”
The musical features original songs by a variety of artists, including David Bowie, Aerosmith, Panic! At the Disco, and Sara Bareilles. It follows SpongeBob (Christian Gonzales) and his friends as they try to save Bikini Bottom from disaster when a volcano threatens their undersea home. Favorite characters like Patrick Star, Squidward, and Sandy Cheeks join the adventure, along with lively appearances by Patchy the Pirate and the French narrator.
Directed by Eb Madson, with choreography by Debbie McCreight, the production promises an experience packed with creativity, laughs, and uplifting messages about friendship and community.
