LEESBURG, FL (352today.com) – Lake Sumter-State College (LSSC) awarded State Senator Dennis A. Baxley an honorary Bachelor of Leadership degree to recognize his service to the citizens of Florida.
LSSC President Heather Bigard and Trustees Bret Jones and Emily Lee presented the senator with his diploma at the school’s 69th commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 1.
“We are proud to recognize Senator Baxley’s unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to our great state of Florida,” said Bigard.

Sen. Baxley was elected to the State House of Representatives from 2000 to 2007 and again from 2010 to 2016. He served District 13 while on the Florida State Senate, which includes Lake County and West Orange County.
Baxley remains the only person to serve as the Speaker Pro Tempore of the Florida House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Florida Senate in the history of the State of Florida.
Senator Baxley has chosen to retire from elected office at the end of this current term.
“Senator Baxley has left an enduring mark on our community, and we believe that this recognition affirms his legacy of advocacy and unwavering dedication to our community and this state,” said Bigard.
To honor the legacy of Senator Baxley, LSSC produced a tribute video to commemorate his accomplishments.
