SPRING HILL, FL (352today.com) – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has arrested a man in connection to a large amount of child pornography on his cellphone.
HCSO says they first received word in April of last year of a man in Spring Hill who was possibly in possession of child pornography.
On April 5, 2023, deputies say they executed a court-authorized search warrant at the residence of 49-year-old Steven Sims, located on Gifford Drive in Spring Hill.
Deputies say they located a cellphone belonging to Sims during the search and began to look through it.
They say an initial search found that Sims had at least 10 files containing child pornography on his cellphone.
Deputies arrested Sims on 10 counts of possession of child pornography and transported him to the Hernando County Detention Center.
On April 6, 2023, deputies said they completed a forensic exam on Sims’ cellphone. The results revealed an application that contained another 90 child pornography video files on his cellphone.
HCSO charged Sims with an additional 90 counts of possession of child pornography. They set his bond at $900,000 at the time.
Sims was sentenced to 15 years in the Department of Corrections and an additional five years of Sex Offender probation on Aug. 30, 2024.
