MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is still unable to find a resolution to a murder case that has been open for 10 years.
On August 18, 2014, deputies say they found the remains of a body located on the side of NE Highway 315. They say investigations helped identify that body as 43-year-old Vitaliy Olenchuk.
MCSO says the cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma. Further investigation into the death led detectives to believe that this was not an accident and that Olenchuk had been murdered.
MCSO details the backstory of Olenchuck, who was originally born in Ukraine. They say he fled to Florida to seek a new life and find connections in the Eastern European communities of Jacksonville and St. Augustine. He became a construction worker during his time in the United States.
Detectives say Olenchuk was last confirmed alive on March 16, 2012. They say there is evidence that he may have been seen in or around Marion County around July 2013.
“As we continue our investigation, we need your help to uncover the truth about what happened to Vitaliy,” says MCSO in a Facebook post. “His family deserves closure, and we are determined to bring the person responsible for his death to justice.”
