OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Mayor Ben Marciano met with the Ocala Metro Chamber & Economic Partnership (CEP) Ambassadors this week to share his administration’s progress and outline his ambitious vision for Ocala’s continued growth and well-being.
The Mayor’s primary responsibility is to oversee the Ocala Police Department, but he was quick to give credit to Chief Balken and the officers who serve the community every day. Over the past year, they have launched several community-centered initiatives, including the formation of a bike unit and mounted unit, a renewed focus on the chaplain program, and a revitalized amnesty program designed to foster trust and rehabilitation. The department has also enhanced community policing efforts, revived the Ocala Police Ball, and achieved a measurable reduction in crime rates.
In the area of physical health, Mayor Marciano has spearheaded the creation of a Health and Wellness Task Force. Community engagement programs such as Workouts with the Mayor, school fitness challenges, and the citywide step challenge have encouraged residents of all ages to prioritize fitness. Facilities like the Mary Sue Rich Community Center have served as vital hubs for these initiatives.
Mental health awareness has also been a top priority. Mayor Marciano has used his platform to drive meaningful conversations and actions around mental wellness. From a press conference with the Florida Attorney General to sharing community program videos and establishing a dedicated mental health website, his administration is focused on reducing stigma and connecting residents with resources. The amnesty program also provides vital second chances for individuals facing mental health challenges.
Looking ahead, Mayor Marciano presented his 2050 Vision for Ocala, which includes key development projects including a second downtown parking garage, a downtown hotel, the ongoing Midtown redevelopment, and the transformational 44th Avenue project.
The Mayor also highlighted ongoing and completed projects, including innovative programming in the jail system to reduce recidivism, continued efforts to open a much-needed grocery store in West Ocala, partnerships with organizations like Wear Gloves & Saving Mercy, and sustained support for the Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter.
Mayor Marciano’s visit to the Ocala Metro Chamber CEP Ambassadors underlined a strong partnership between the city and local business and community leaders.
