MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County Public Schools (MCPS) is inviting parents to review new textbooks being considered and offer input.
The district says it’s adopting new textbooks for three math courses and Social Studies.
MCPS says the textbooks are for the following courses:
- Mathematics for Third Grade Acceleration
- Mathematics for Fourth Grade Acceleration
- Mathematics for Sixth Grade Acceleration (taught in fifth grade)
- Social Studies Kindergarten-Fifth Grade
MCPS is inviting parents to an open review night for the textbooks on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. The session will take place in Building 20 on the MTI campus at 392 SE 19th Ave., in Ocala.
“That is when members of the public can physically review potential textbooks and materials being considered by the district adoption review committees for next school year,” the district said in a news release.
The Textbook Selection Process
“The process already involves parents, teachers, and community members reviewing instructional materials. Course-specific committees can involve up to 15 voting members and one non-voting chair including the content area program specialist, up to eight teachers, two parents, and five community members appointed by the Marion County School Board,” said MCPS.
The district says review committee members will consider public input at its meeting on Monday, Dec. 11, at West Port High School starting at 6 p.m.
Committee members will then vote to recommend titles to the superintendent, who then advances recommendations to the Marion County School Board.
