Marion County deputies seek suspect in connection with young girl’s sexual abuse case

MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has named a man wanted by the department in connection to the Lewd or Lascivious Molestation of a young girl.

Deputies say 44-year-old Ely Gomez-Alcantara is the man wanted on these charges.

Deputies say a juvenile victim told deputies back in 2019 that Alcantara-Gomez molested her while he was alone with her on a walk.

“He took advantage of this little girl, and it’s time he faces the consequences of his actions,” said MCSO Sheriff Billy Woods on his Woods by Wednesday segment.

Deputies discovered during the initial investigation that Alcantara-Gomez was not a US citizen. The department says this has made it difficult for them to locate him.

Deputies say that Alcantara-Gomez has ties with the equine community, believing he is still in Marion County.

Arrest records show that Alcantara-Gomez has been arrested four times by MCSO dating back to 2010. He was most recently arrested for a probation violation back in 2013.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ely Alcantara-Gomez can call Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP.
