MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is calling on the public to help identify a man who they say stole money from an elderly woman at Walmart.
Deputies say the man stole more than $3,000 from a woman by tricking her into giving him her debit card.
They say it all started when the woman visited the Walmart, located at 9570 SW Highway 200 in Ocala, to shop and get her phone repaired.
While she was in the electronics department, MCSO says the man approached her and pretended to offer help.
After about two hours, they say the man convinced the woman to hand over her debit card and provide her pin so that he could “fix” her phone.
They say the man then made his way toward the exit of the store with the woman’s debit card and pin number in hand.
MCSO says the woman confronted the man reminding him that he was still in possession of her debit card, to which they say the man shrugged and walked away.

Investigators say the man used the woman’s card to withdraw $1,000 at a Wells Fargo ATM.
They say he then went to Lowe’s and made a $1,550 purchase, then made a $510 purchase at a Circle K.
MCSO asks that anyone who can help identify the man captured on surveillance cameras should contact Crime Stoppers of Marion County at (352) 368-STOP (7867) or submit an anonymous tip online.
