Man charged with second degree murder in shooting death of woman in Homosassa Springs

HOMOSASSA SPRINGS, FL (352today.com) – A man was arrested Aug. 8, 2025, and taken into custody and is being charged with second degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Michael Lee McClellan, 37, shot and killed a 45-year-old woman, inside a dwelling on South Palmer Avenue in Homosassa Springs. When authorities searched the home, they found the victim 45-year-old Sadie Marie Gochis, dead.

The incident resulted in standoff at the home, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to the dwelling at about 9 a.m. Friday morning, knowing there was an armed individual inside. Specialized units were deployed including the Citrus County Swat Team and a crisis negotiation team.  The Marion County Swat Team also responded to the area to assist.

A juvenile boy who was inside the home at the time of the incident, was able to escape, and provided authorities with critical information.

After hours of negotiation, the situation ended peacefully, with McClellan being taken into custody.
