June Jobless Report
The hiring fair comes just as the area’s jobless report is released.

CareerSource CLM says the region’s unemployment rate for June was 4.5% which is half a percentage point higher than the same time last year. That represents 9,947 unemployed residents which is up 1,143 over the year.

Levy County currently has the lowest unemployment rate in the region.

Rusty Skinner, CareerSoure CLM’s chief executive officer says the increase in the unemployment rate is due to the onset of summer. He says it’s a seasonal change in education and agricultural employment, as well as an influx of post-secondary students returning to the workforce, area who are looking for summer jobs before returning to school.

“What we’re seeing this time of year is a typical summer downturn and it’s not unique to our region or any other area of Florida, for that matter,” Skinner emphasized. “That doesn’t mean we’re taking our time; we know companies are looking to hire and that’s why we’re looking to connect them with job seekers.”

Skinner anticipates jobless numbers should normalize once fall arrives.

CareerSource CLM says another job fair will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the College of Central Florida campus in Citrus County.
