LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Several close calls for a Levy County couple after an intruder broke into their home while they were sleeping.
The Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says around 1:30 a.m. a husband and wife were awakened by the sound of breaking glass.
The sheriff’s office says the man armed himself and went outside to investigate while the woman checked the home security system.
“To her horror, she saw a man on their porch and immediately called 911,” LCSO said in a news release.
When deputies arrived, they immediately saw the armed homeowner outside. “The deputy did not know he was the homeowner and after a tense few moments, the homeowner lowered his gun,” said LCSO.
Deputies say what they didn’t know is that the homeowner had the intruder at gunpoint and when he lowered the gun, the intruder got away.
“The on-scene investigation determined the intruder fired a handgun through the sliding glass door, shattering the window,” said LCSO. “The bullet lodged into the backrest of their couch.”
The sheriff’s office says the homeowners posted pictures of the suspect from their surveillance camera on social media and by 7:30 a.m. someone contacted them and identified the intruder as 29-year-old Fransisco Calvillo.
The couple called the sheriff’s office and provided that tip.
LCSO says deputies went to Calvillo’s home in Bronson and arrested him.
Deputies say they collected additional evidence linking Calvillo to the crime.
They’ve charged him with:
- shooting into an occupied dwelling
- armed trespassing
- possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
352today checked Levy County jail records which show Calvillo has been booked into the jail at least six times in the last 11 years. Charges range from stalking to aggravated assault.
Bond has not yet been assigned in this most recent case.
