LADY LAKE, FL (352today.com) – The swish of three-point shots not gun shots are what you want to hear at a basketball court.
The Lady Lake Police Department (LLPD) says they’re looking for the person who sprayed gunfire at a basketball court on Thursday night.
The shooting took place around 7:30 p.m. at the Guava Street Athletic Complex, located at 221 W. Guava St.
LLPD says they were initially called to the basketball court after a fight broke out among multiple people.
Investigators say the person they are looking for is a light-skinned Black male with a locs hairstyle (aka dreadlocks) and a red tattoo behind his ear.
They say he went to a white four-door sedan – possibly a Hyundai – and grabbed a handgun during the fight.
Police say the man was leaving the area when he fired the handgun towards people at the basketball court.
LLPD says no one was injured from the gunfire.
“Hundreds of people — including youth sports teams, families, and seniors — enjoy our athletic fields and parks every week without issue,” said LLPD Police Chief Steve Hunt. “Lady Lake Police will continue to work to ensure our parks remain safe for everyone.”
LLPD along with crews from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Fruitland Park Police Department canvassed the surrounding neighborhoods Thursday evening searching for the shooter.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact LLPD at (352) 751-1565.
