Hernando County traffic stop unexpectedly leads to a major drug bust

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) arrested a woman during a traffic stop turned drug bust.

HCSO says the traffic stop happened on Sept. 1 at around 9:23 p.m.  They say the vehicle that they stopped had an improperly installed tag light and a cracked tail lamp.

Deputies made contact with the driver, 36-year-old Tammie Taylor of Brooksville, who told them that she had illegal narcotics in her vehicle.  Deputies say Taylor let them search the vehicle.

According to deputies, they immediately found a lunchbox in the back seat of Taylor’s car. They say a red baggie inside the lunchbox contained a “clear rock-type substance” that was later tested positive as methamphetamine.

Deputies say they also found a clear baggie containing a “white powdery substance,” and another containing a “yellow powdery substance” which later tested positive for fentanyl.

HCSO says they also found loose pieces of paper containing alprazolam, a drug commonly used for anxiety and panic disorders, in the lunchbox. Deputies say that an identification card belonging to Taylor was found, as well.

Taylor was reportedly arrested at the scene and taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. Deputies at the jail say they conducted a secondary search of Taylor and found a large clear plastic baggie that contained a substance that tested positive for fentanyl.

Deputies report they also found several small plastic baggies containing methamphetamine.  HCSO says the total weight of the methamphetamine was 23.3 grams, while the weight of the fentanyl leveled out to 4.3 grams.

HCSO charged Taylor with:

  • trafficking in methamphetamine
  • trafficking in fentanyl
  • possession of a controlled substance
  • introduction of contraband into a detention facility

She is currently being held on an $80,000 bond.
