Fourth of July blaze erupts in Ft. McCoy; firefighters rescue 12 dogs from burning home

MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A Fourth of July fire in Ft. McCoy threatened lives and property, but quick action from Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) saved a dozen dogs from danger.

At 6:35 p.m., MCFR units responded to reports of a mobile home fire in the 11000 block of NE 230th Street. Upon arrival at 6:48 p.m., crews from Ft. McCoy found a double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames, with nearby dog kennels and a camper at risk.

Firefighters immediately deployed hose lines to contain the blaze and protect the animals. Crews from Citra, Orange Lake, Sparr, and Orange Springs stations arrived to assist.

Thanks to coordinated efforts, 12 dogs were rescued from the fire. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

The fire was declared under control at 9:54 p.m. The cause and origin are still under investigation.
