While 65% of the money made currently is used for prizes, 26.9% goes to Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust fund, which also receives taxes from slot machine earnings. The rest goes toward retailer commissions, administrative expenses and vendor fees.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, 2024, the Florida Lottery revealed that it has donated over $47 billion to education since it started in 1988. This milestone highlights the Lottery’s strong dedication to enhancing educational chances across Florida.

Davis, Secretary of the Florida Lottery. “This achievement highlights our ongoing commitment to enriching the educational experience for students throughout Florida. Every dollar contributed helps to build a brighter future for our youth, supporting their dreams and educational aspirations.”
Which programs are available
To help make higher education more accessible, the Lottery works with different programs and organizations focused on education. By raising awareness about the Bright Futures Scholarship Program and providing important resources to students and their families, the Lottery helps them tackle challenges and achieve their academic goals. To date, it has sent more than 983,000 students to college through the program
The Lottery’s contributions play a key role in supporting many educational projects, including K–12 programs, state colleges and universities, and vocational schools, along with the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
Since it started, over $8 billion has been allocated to Bright Futures, enabling nearly 1 million students to continue their education and training.
