Florida legislature awards $1.2 million grant to support CF students

OCALA, FL (352today.com) – More opportunities have become available for students in need of funding.

The College of Central Florida (CF) has received $1.2 million in Open Door Grant funding from the Florida Legislature. This money will go toward supporting student scholarships in various workforce programs, including Health Sciences degrees and the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program.

Last year, CF helped 685 students who didn’t qualify for Pell grants or received minimal federal or state aid. Eligible students this year will automatically be considered for the Open Door grant without needing to apply.

“Local employers need these talented students to get to work, and scholarships like this help students complete their programs faster. Students currently enrolled in every Associate in Science program and many college credit certificate programs may benefit from scholarships made possible by this grant,” said Dr. Jennifer Fryns, vice president of workforce development and innovation. “CF is in the midst of the largest workforce training expansion in our history, and we are so appreciative to be awarded these funds for the third year in a row.”

The Open Door Grant Program, established in 2021 by the Florida Legislature, aims to supply skilled workers for high-demand jobs and make workforce training more affordable across Florida’s 28 colleges. To learn more, go to CF.edu.
