DUNNELLON, FL (352today.com) – A social media post led to an arrest the morning of Friday, Sept. 13.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) says that a “concerned parent” contacted a School Resource Officer (SRO), alerting him that a Dunnellon High School student had made a threat on the social media platform, Snapchat. They say that the parent told the SRO that she wouldn’t be sending her child to school, and that she and her child were in fear.
MCSO says that the SRO viewed the video observing that Jason Moore, 16, was holding what appeared to be a rifle, with a disturbing message written in red, with the words, “HE’S BAAAAACK,” displayed in red lettering across the screen.
Upon further investigation, they found that the SRO confirmed Moore’s Snapchat account was used to send the threatening video. When questioned about the video, the teen allegedly told officials he had an airsoft rifle at home and was holding it when he made a post on a different social media site. Officials say he later admitted to posting the video on Snapchat.
While checking Moore’s home, MCSO reported that deputies identified the gun in the video as an airsoft rifle, and they also discovered more airsoft guns at the site.
Moore was arrested for sending a written threat to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism and was transported to the department of juvenile justice.
