MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A Marion County man was arrested after trying to escape law enforcement in a golf cart while intoxicated, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).
MCSO says that Cpl. Lopez was patrolling the area of SE 92nd Loop and Highway C-25 when he spotted a golf cart being driven along the roadway. As he turned around to conduct a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as Hunter Rodgers, veered into a nearby wooded area in an apparent attempt to flee.
The golf cart didn’t make it far. It became stuck, allowing Cpl. Lopez to quickly catch up and detain Rodgers.
MCSO says that Rodgers told the deputy he was “just a drunk guy on a golf cart.” A DUI investigation confirmed his level of impairment, and he was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he provided a breath sample showing a blood alcohol content of .151, nearly twice the legal limit.
Rodgers now faces DUI charges stemming from the incident.
