DEVELOPING: Hernando County detectives investigate Spring Hill home invasion, homicide

SPRING HILL, FL (352today.com) – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is currently investigating a home invasion which left one person hospitalized and another dead this morning, Wednesday, Oct. 11.

At around 4:45 a.m., HCSO received a call regarding a home invasion on Marquette Street, just about a mile north of Spring Hill Drive. According to a briefing from Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, the callers did not provide a lot of information. He added that HCSO has dealt with this address in the past and said the callers are involved in a “high-risk lifestyle.”

When deputies arrived at the residence just before 5 a.m., they reportedly discovered two adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Nienhuis said deputies were able to perform life-saving measures on one of the victims, who was later transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The suspect or suspects are currently unknown, although Nienhuis said detectives are currently pursuing some significant leads. At this time, there is also no description of the suspect’s vehicle. Nienhuis said HCSO will release more information as it becomes available.

Deputies believe the suspect has left the immediate area of Marquette Street, and there is no danger to the community, since this appears to have been a targeted crime.

“I don’t think it was random,” said Nienhuis. “I think it was targeted, as all home invasions normally are. If the individuals on this street are not involved in a high-risk lifestyle, the chances of them becoming a victim here or anywhere else in the county is extremely, extremely small, especially of a violent crime.”

However, HCSO advises citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles to law enforcement.

Residents in the area of the crime scene are asked to review any footage (video doorbells, security cameras, etc.) they may have from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. this morning. HCSO asks anyone with relevant information to call the office at 352-754-6830 and ask to speak with a Major Case detective.
