The pins weren’t the only things falling during this past season of the City/County Bowling League. Hearts were won as well. After a spirited season of strikes and friendly rivalries, the league has made a meaningful impact beyond the lanes.

Organized by Marion County Property Appraiser Jimmy Cowan, the City/County Bowling League was revived last year and quickly gained enthusiastic support from local government agencies and the local bowling community. What started as a fun way to connect across departments ended with a generous act of kindness.

Following the championship game and awarding the first-place prize, league participants voted unanimously to donate the remaining prize funds. The total of $2,275.10 was donated to Marion County Animal Services, supporting the shelter’s efforts to care for and rehome animals in need.

“Everyone was excited to play, but even more excited to give back,” said Cowan. “This league has really brought people together, not just through competition but through community spirit.”

The donation reflects the league’s shared commitment to public service both on and off the lanes.

And for those keeping score, the County team claimed victory this past season. A rematch is already in the works as the City team looks to even the score in the next round.

Until then, the league’s legacy continues. One pin, and one paw, at a time
