HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has arrested a Brooksville man and charged him in connection with the death of another.
HCSO says they developed 53-year-old RW Resca Jr. as a suspect after finding a dead, decomposing body dumped near a business on Cortez Boulevard.
In a post on the department’s Facebook page, HCSO says the investigation began when the sheriff’s office received a call on Tuesday, Nov. 21, just before 3:30 p.m. saying they saw what appeared to be a body on a dead-end road and smelled a strong, foul odor.
Investigators were able to quickly identify the dead person and just as quickly develop a person of interest who they located for question.
HCSO says Resca confessed to the murder and ditching the body.
Deputies arrested him and charged him with 2nd degree homicide. He’s being held in the Hernando County Detention Center without bond.
The sheriff’s office is not releasing the identity of the victim, citing Marsy’s Law which gives victims and their families rights to privacy among other protections.
HCSO noted they made the arrest within 10 hours of the initial call for service.
