BELLEVIEW, FL (352today.com) – The City of Belleview is teaming up with SouthState Bank, Fix-It Tek, and the Belleview Police Department to host a special Identity Theft Awareness and Prevention Program on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Belleview Community Center.
The free event includes a screening of Thelma, a critically acclaimed film with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, followed by expert-led discussions on how to spot and stop scams, especially those targeting seniors.
Attendees can choose between a 3 p.m. matinee or a 6 p.m. evening showing at the Belleview Community Center (6515 SE 110th Place). Light refreshments will be provided. Advance registration is encouraged at belleviewfl.org due to limited seating.
Thelma tells the story of a 93-year-old woman scammed out of $10,000, who refuses to be a victim and embarks on a spirited quest across Los Angeles to reclaim what was stolen. The film shines a light on the real-life dangers of financial scams.
Following the movie, representatives from SouthState Bank, Fix-It Tek, and the Belleview Police Department will share strategies to protect personal information and respond if targeted.

Sergeant Miley of the Belleview Police Department added, “Education is the best tool we have to fight back.”
