ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) says they arrested a man on charges of stealing E-bikes and mini-bikes from people who came to town for a Thanksgiving week racing event.
ACSO shared in a Facebook post that they found 37-year-old Drew Johnson hiding several stolen bikes inside a motor home and box trailer.
They say a report from someone who had their electric bike stolen is what led to their discovery.
The victim told deputies the E-bike was worth $4,000 and that it had a tracking device on it. Deputies say they traced it to Gatorback Cycle Park located at 20525 NW 46th Ave. in Alachua.
There they say they found the bike in question along with a disassembled E-bike and multiple mini-bikes that had altered serial numbers.
The sheriff’s office says the week of Thanksgiving attracts thousands of race fans and competitors to the track and they believe that all of the bikes had been stolen during an event.

Deputies arrested Johnson and charged him with two counts of grand theft and two counts of possession of a vehicle with an altered serial number. He’s being held on a $40,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office says the bikes they were able to identify were returned to their owners.
