HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A Hernando County man is facing a murder charge in connection with a late-July shooting that killed one and injured another.
On Tuesday, State Attorney Bill Gladson announced the grand jury indictment of 21-year-old Donald Jamison on charges connected to the shooting that killed 53-year-old Claudia Barbosa and injured her son, 28-year-old Nicolas Bello.
What happened
The shooting took place on July 30 at the El Sol de Mexico restaurant in Brooksville.
Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies were originally dispatched to the restaurant after receiving a call that two people had been shot.
Deputies say the caller informed them the shooter took off in a vehicle.
When they arrived, they found Barbosa dead and Bello suffering gunshot wounds.
Deputies obtained footage of the vehicle used to get away.
After a statewide broadcast was issued to alert the public, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spotted a vehicle matching the description and pulled it over.
Troopers identified Jamison as the driver. They say he matched the description provided by witnesses.
Jamison was detained by FHP and transported back to HCSO for an interview. During the interview, he tried to escape but was immediately arrested, according to deputies.
Indictment
Jamison has now been indicted for multiple charges, including:
- Premeditated First-Degree Murder with a Firearm
- One count of Attempted Felony Murder
- Two counts of Robbery with a Firearm
- One count of Escape from a Law Enforcement Officer
In a Facebook post, State Attorney Bill Gladson acknowledged what he called the “gravity of this matter and its profound impact on the victim’s family and the community.” Gladson said, “As these legal proceedings develop, our office remains committed to ensuring justice and accountability for all.”
